Medicare Plan D supplement is usually opted by beneficiaries to fill the coverage gap in their Original Medicare. While Part D refers to the medicare prescription drug coverage, Plan D supplement concentrates on providing a certain amount of coverage that is missing from Part A and B.

While it is good to have a Medicare Plan D supplement, it is entirely up to individuals to enroll under any of the Medigap plans. Here are some of standard set of benefits offered by Plan D policy-

  • Medicare Part A hospital, and coinsurance costs, up to 365 days after Original Medicare benefits are utilized.
  • Medicare Part A excess charges.
  • Medicare Part A care under hospice coinsurance remittance and copayment.
  • Medicare Part B coinsurance and copayments
  • First three pints of blood, if used in a medical procedure
  • Expert Nursing Facility care coinsurance payment.
  • Foreign travel emergency care up to 80% of the cost approved prior to travel or as stated in the plan limits.
 

It is important to note that Plan D supplement does not include or provide Medicare Part B deductible or excess charges. Not all insurance companies sell this plan and the availability of this Plan depends on the location as well. The scope of this plan also does not include the additional benefits taken care of by Plan C and F.
